Weekly Update
Alrighty! I am loving this new area! There a lot of difficult challenges here but it is still a jolly good time. The hardest part of this area is that people cancel on us so often. We got punted (a term here which just means we got cancelled) for an entire day this week. It can be a little discouraging but Elder Lucana and I have such a great time together. He is literally the nicest person I have ever met. We have no housemates, but we still laugh and smile all day long. It is so uplifting to be surrounded by a positive person all day. We made a goal this week for me to only speak Tagalog, and him to only speak English. We really want to be fluent! I truly have a lot to learn from Elder Lucana.
The area is very confusing here though. Most of the houses are in the squatters area. They get pretty dangerous at night so we aren't allowed in most areas once it gets dark. Also the trash and the smell here are pretty bad, but I am so glad we are by the water. It just adds so much to the sceneryI
Lately I have been focusing my study on Christ's Earthly Ministry and reading a lot from the New Testament. Christ is truly the perfect example for us all and he suffered all the pains and afflictions in the world in order for us to return the presence of our Heavenly Father. There is truly no greater act of love than dying for those you love. I am so grateful for the infinite enabling power of the Atonement. I invite all to learn more about Christ, because we are never done growing and getting closer to Him.
The highlight of the week was definitely the baptisms that we had. Our ward mission leader is very organized and loves making baptisms super special. So many ward members showed up to support these two kids. One of the people getting baptized, Ashley, is an amazing example to me. He is super smart for his age he is the only member in his family. I am positive that he will show the way for his family to come unto Christ as well! I love this gospel so much!
Another highlight of the week was meeting a man whose name is Militin Santos. I have never met anyone so proud to be a Mormon. He is a guard and at his guard post he puts up tons of articles and pictures from the church. He is a recent convert that is constantly inviting the world to come unto Christ. He is an amazing example for me.
That's all for the week folks! Time truly is flying by in the mission and I am loving every second of it!
