The Love of God

There are so many little blessings each day in our lives. All we have to do is look for them! This week on sunday I really felt God's love for me. As I have worked harder than ever this week to be exactly obedient (because exact obedience brings miracles), I really hoped there would be instantaneous, spectacular results. This week was one of our lowest weeks in term of numbers. I struggled to understand what happened, but I realized that I need to work not only harder, but smarter. This week I will try to be more efficient with my time. After being disappointed at the lack of investigators at church this week, the music started at church. Since it was stake conference there were two special musical numbers. The first one was "Where Can I Turn for Peace," which is currently my favorite hymn. I was filled with the spirit. THEN the second musical number was "How Great Thou Art." This was no coincidence! This is my second favorite song! Like if anyone ever asks me what my favorite hymns are, I say those two titles. I know that God was trying to tell me how much he loved me at a moment I needed it the most. He tends to do that, as long as we are obedient to his commandments and look for his tender mercies. Then after the service I had the chance to speak to my cousin who lives in our stake. His daughter ran up to me and said, "Tito Elder!!" (which means "Uncle Elder").  Then more people came to meet me who were my father's friends when he lived in this stake. MOST IMPORTANTLY, they gave me food! Just joking, but seriously the food was MALINAMNAM (delicious).

One small funny moment as well was when Elder Lucana and I were on a jeepney when the song changed to the Ghostbusters theme song. At that same time there were two men with jumpsuits that looked like the Filipino version of the characters in that movie. God has a sense of humor haha!

We had a lesson this week with a referral named Arturo. He really needed our message. When we started speaking the man started weeping. He has been looking for direction in his life for so long, and he really felt the love of God at that moment. It was truly a beautiful moment! Our problem is that he does not have enough money to get to church. So many of our investigators want to go to church but are too poor. All we can really do is teach them to rely on God!

On another note, there are so many mosquitoes in our apartment. Every morning I wake up to my feet being eaten alive by these bugs. I have started to apply repellent throughout the day and before I go to bed. Then I have my daily killing spree where I take this electric racket thing and kill as many mosquitoes as possible. With the high population of people here, there is a high risk of Dengue Fever... I DON'T WANT DENGUE!! Tons of bugs, but that's kind of just normal now. One time we were at a dinner appointment and there were literally ants crawling all through the rice. Everyone was just eating like normal. I guess I can't complain for some extra protein! Also I saw my first spider fight. It is like a cock fight but with two spiders on a stick. Crazy for sure.

Fun week here for sure! I am meeting so many different people and experiencing more than I have ever before in my life. I am so grateful for this opportunity to be a missionary!
