New Adventures in the Office

So this week I was in for a surprise. On Tuesday morning I got a call from President Hughes telling me that on the following day I would be going in to the office to be assigned as an Assistant to the President.. to be honest I was terrified, and I still am terrified. But I guess who the Lord calls, he qualified. Pretty much what it means to be an assistant is to be in a lot more meetings, you learn a lot more from President Hughes, and you have the opportunity to serve all the missionaries in the mission. The bummer is that this is happening right as Caloocan is back on the rise. My mind is still somewhat in Caloocan because I love that place so much.

On Wednesday, my first day as an Assistant, I drove for the first time in the Philippines. It is known that on the first day of driving, most missionaries get into accidents here in the Philippines due to the crazy driving style. There are literally no rules here.. as long as the car/motorcycle fits, you can go. Luckily I have yet to get into an accident. The first night we had a meeting with President Hughes and other officials from Salt Lake about the new smart phones that this mission will be getting soon. It was a long meeting starting at 8pm (due to the time difference) and we did not get to bed past midnight. The next day we went back to the Mission Home to have another meeting with President Hughes and he gave us a free lunch! WOOHOO! The following day... we had yet, yes you guessed it, another meeting. This one we were in charge of a three hour meeting with all the leaders in the mission. The meeting was supposed to be about the Smart Phones but last minuted President decided that we needed to wait until next MLC. So we had three hours to plan for it and we were not quite sure what to do. Luckily my companions are beasts and really know what they are doing. I feel like a trainee again wandering around the office trying to figure out what to do. I am grateful for the patience of those around me right now.

At times I ask myself why I was called to be an Assistant, but I just have to trust in the Lord that there is something that either I am supposed to learn or something I am supposed to do for the mission. Time will tell, all I know right now is that I am pretty darn tired right now... At least we get to spend more time with air conditioning!

This Sunday we also got to witness the creation of the 109th stake in the Philippines. It was an awesome opportunity to hear the testimonies of so many church leaders. Plus I got to see all of my previous ward mates and recent converts from Batasan Hills. Ahh I miss that ward so much.

-Till next week
