Back to Caloocan...
Well I am back in Caloocan, and it was an adjustment getting used to the Caloocan vibes again. People here are less shy and often more blunt with their words so you are called a lot of names. It is a lot different than Montalban because it was quiet there and there are a lot of subdivisions. Here there are a lot of squatters and poorer areas. Yet, this is the kind of area that I thrive in!
My new companion is Elder Hough. He is from Pennsylvania and we were in the MTC together so we are already pretty close. Yeah! It has been already an interesting transfer because we are already very focused on missionary work and all we want is to see Caloocan improve and be the best zone it can be.
Before, the elders in Caloocan were called the Caloocan boys because there are no sisters. It is not safe for sisters. But we want to change that mindset and use one of my favorite scriptures that says “Arise and be men”. We want to change it from the Caloocan boys to Caloocan men.
We just want to get the zone hyped about missionary work. This zone extended the most invitations to act in the entire mission.
Some cool things that happened to us this week:
1. The earthquake- We were in a lesson and right after we had the opening prayer, we felt it. We saw the things move, felt the vibrations, the kids cried. It was my first earthquake.
2. Also here in Caloocan we are teaching a deaf mute family. My companion is already fluent in sign language. I felt like I was a trainee again because I didn’t understand. But now I am determined to learn some sign language so we can bring this family back to the church.
