Blessing of Service
I have a couple thoughts that I want to share with you all today. The first is the blessing that come from service.
We were trying to contact a woman named Jennifer that I talked to on the street a couple weeks ago. God gave me the prompting to go to her house and check up on her. When we got there she was not feeling super well and her children were roaming around. For her job she makes the labels for the pineapples here. For each 1000 labels that she makes, she earns 80 pesos (less than 2 dollars). We decided to perform some service for a while and just talk to her about her family. As she started to talk with us, her entire composure started to change. She really does love her family. We were having a great conversation when I heard a explosive kind of sound coming from her child. I looked to my right and her kid had pooped all over. It seriously exploded all over me... there is the instant blessing that I got from performing some service... haha! We all had a good laugh and she let us share a message with her and her family. There is no better way to build trust than be sharing a moment like that.
My new companion Elder Moralita is amazing! We have so many good times every single day. As zone leaders we are dealing with many companionships that struggle. As missionaries we help many families that struggle. Life is full of struggles so we must all learn how to learn and grow from every struggle that we have on a daily basis. Elder Moralita is teaching me so much about charity, love, and composure. This will be my favorite transfer of the mission :)
As missionaries our invitation is always for people to ask for themselves. At times we meet people who are unwilling to ask God whether or not our message is true. This boggles my mind at times because all we want for people to do is that when they "lack wisdom, let them ask of God.. and it will be given unto them." Sometimes we as people would rather live in a state of uncertainty and doubt rather than asking a question and finding an answer. Peter explains this concept in 2 Peter 3:5 - "For this they are willing to be ignorant." We should all be willing to learn, not be willing to be ignorant. If you are reading this and have not yet asked God what is true, I invite you to ask God in the name of Jesus Christ, having faith, real intent, and a sincere heart. You will know whether or not this message that we bring is true or not. It is what I did, and I bear witness of my testimony that Jesus Christ is our Savior, that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, and that we have a living prophet today to guide us. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
