Refuse to express a passion and it dies
"Refuse to express a passion and it dies."
I have been pondering that quote for the past two weeks and it has changed my life. We have had a lot of different missionary training recently with zone conferences, zone interviews, and the MLC. Plus we have been starting to train other missionaries how to use their smart phone for proselyting. At each of the zone conferences that I went to, President Hughes gave a couple workshops that changed my life. I honestly think that one reason I was called here to be an Assistant was to listen to these two workshops 9 times. The first workshop was on the Hero's Journey and the cycle that all adventures go through. I will talk more about that in future emails. The second workshop was about Emotional Maturity. Being emotionally mature is the defining characteristic that brings respect from others.
We all have emotions and passions here on earth. Some passions are good and some are not. We need to learn how to master our passions. I used to think we need to just control them but I have learned that being passionate is important to be successful in every aspect of life. The good passions that we have we need to express or it dies. For example if you love your family but you refuse to express it, that passion will die. However it also goes the other way; if you have a bad temper and you refuse to express it, it will die.
I want to better express what I am truly passionate about and that passion will grow. That is one reason that your testimony strengthens on the mission because you express your passion every day to everyone you see.
Here is what I want to become more passionate about. As I express it now these passions will grow:
1)Loving and prioritizing family
2) Change through the Atonement of Jesus Christ
3) Becoming exceptional through a Learner's Mindset
4)Mountains
5)Pokemon
I am kind of joking about that last one... haha.. Okay but here is my challenge for anyone that happens to read this email. Ponder right now (yes right now) about what you want to become more passionate about. Not necessarily what you are currently passionate about, just something you want to grow. Now express that passion of yours! Tell you family members you love them. Talk with God about how you feel. Try this and it could change your life. It is up to you.
Oh also I am stepping down from being AP! I guess I wasn't doing a good enough job so they found something else for me to do.. haha. Our mission is starting a new calling: Teaching AP. We will be building up one area and we will be going on exchanges with a different missionary every day in order for them to learn how to teach and how to lead someone to baptism. My companion is now Elder Moralita! We have been companions before and I am way excited to be with him again. It is a dream come true! :)
I will probably only be doing this for a couple weeks until the next transfer to get it all organized and set up. Every day is a new adventure!
