I Performed Open Foot Surgery!
This was quite the interesting week for sure, I do not even know where to start. Well I guess I will start at the beginning of the week! We had interviews with the president which are always very enlightening and motivating. He has a lot of wisdom and I honestly believe that I was partly called in this specific mission to learn from President Hughes.
One of our investigators, Alex has changed more than any person I have seen. At first when we met him, he felt very uncomfortable and did not want to hear our message. For some reason we felt like we needed to continue to go back and visit him. Now he has really felt the power of the Atonement and has opened up to us. He has the best smile and I have no doubt that he will keep progressing. One day when we were teaching him, his nephew was in the house. He cut his foot open and it was badly infected. He was in so much pain that he was crying and groaning. I knew that there was something that we had to do. We wanted him to go to the doctor, but they did not have enough money. His parents left him for Alex to take care of, but he does not have a job. The house they live in has no floor and no bed. Just a little shack thing with a table. Luckily, we had some disinfectant for an object lesson that we were having for us to help him out. This kids foot was super infected and we needed to take out all the pus. I got a needle and helped him disinfect his foot and remove as much of the infection as possible. Honestly I did not know what I was doing, so I was just praying it would help him out. The next time we saw him he was in a lot less pain. What a miracle really!
On Thursday, we were going to a funeral service of a elderly sister in our ward. Right before we arrived they told us that we were going to be speakers at the funeral service! I have never talked at a funeral service before, especially not in Tagalog. That was one of the most nerve-wrecking things that I have ever done. I just focused on the Plan of Salvation and let the spirit guide. I think it ended up alright!
On Saturday we had a surprise visit from President to our apartment. This is another scary event. He came to interview our housemates with some things that has been going on so we were all alright. Exciting moment for sure.
Yesterday our five investigators passed their interview and will be baptized this next week! We are so excited for their decision to come closer to Christ.
I have really learned how to be happy here on the mission. The happiest times in life are when we are serving others. We need to help each other out as fellow children of God. The mission is truly great. Till next week!
