Week 2
Ok wow. I look back at each week that I have and it is filled with so many experiences and feelings that is it difficult to send in one short email, but I will do my best.
I love the MTC so much! Every day I grow spiritually and learn so much about the gospel and the Tagalog language. In the morning we start off with physical activity, which is usually basketball since my Kasama (companion) loves it so much. It is so entertaining to play with the Filipinos because they are so much shorter than me. They are all so amazed when I dunk the ball! I am THE tall guy. After physical activity we get to plan out our day and have personal scripture study. I love the Book of Mormon and the Bible so much. If you have not read any of it, I hope you can at some point. It will bring so much happiness into your life!
Our District is getting closer every single day! This week was special because everyone shared personal stories about their lives. They are such an example to me because of the things they have had to endure in order to make it to this point in life. I wish I could tell you all of them, but there is not too much time.
While this was an amazing week, it was also a difficult week. Many were feeling homesick. I was feeling very overwhelmed and unconfident in my own abilities. Then we had a devotional that changed so much for me. One thing that Elder Schmutz (yeah that is his real name) talked about was that we must rely on the Lord completely. I cannot do this alone. That is why I am so grateful to have Christ as a support in my life.
Language learning is coming slower than expected. We try to memorize words and phrases that we can say for our lessons, but we did not start learning the grammar until this week. However, I can now introduce myself, pray, share my simple testimony, share my purpose, share some scriptures and say other basic things. I can't wait to go out into Quezon City and start serving the people though.
Some funny experiences:
Some people were saying I look like Mr Bean again, and Elder Hafoka from Tonga got my back and said to everyone, "I think Elder Cadayong looks like him (*points to picture of God*). We were all made in God's image." Then Elder Cantillo replied, "So was Mr. Bean!"
"Missionaries share messages, not food." - Elder Aiono
A pranking war has begun between the Ammon and Mosiah Districts. Our rooms keep on getting sabataged and people are getting woken up by water... haha!
That is about all the time I have for today. Life is busy as a missionary, but I know that this is the Lords work. I am praying for you and I hope you are all doing well! If you ever have any questions, just know that I am here!
From,
Elder Cadayong
